I have been a fan of Neil Gaiman's Book of Magic series and when I heard that Carla Jablonski had written the "novelized" versions of the comic books, I decided to buy the series at National Bookstore.
I was curious as to how Jablonski would interpret Gaiman's comic book into a young adult novel. Having read the comic book series, I wondered if she would bring additional depth and meaning towards Tim Hunter's character and the overall story development.
Unfortunately this wasn't the case.
I think Carla Jablonski based her novels on the comic books, she did not add anything else to the overall story. I think she was merely contracted to write a novelized version of the series, without adding or removing anything else.
After reading through Books 1 and 2 (I'm currently on Book 3 -- Children's Crusade), I can say that the comic books are better than the novels. The books offer little additional background information about the characters or the story itself.
